Dr. Fernau definitely exudes the desire to achieve perfection in all of the surgical procedures he performs, exemplifies the best bedside manner, reveals a great sense of humor, takes tremendous pride in his work and profession, and delivers a high level of care for his patients. When I experienced unexpected complications (a severe allergic reaction to antibacterial sutures and the development of a serious infection along both of my incisions) after my first surgical procedure with him, I really felt like completely restoring my health, well-being, and superior aesthetic results was a top priority to him. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Fernau to another person going through the same breast reconstruction process. I am extremely pleased with him and my results after working with 3 other well-known plastic surgeons for previous surgeries since 2011. My initial surgery (4th breast reconstruction revision) with this plastic surgeon took place on Friday, October 23, 2015. Several days later, I started developing a serious infection and an unexpected complication (suspected allergic reaction to commonly used antibacterial sutures). These issues had me at my surgeon's office repeatedly for a period of close to a month involving intense post-op follow-up and treatment. The surgeon ultimately decided to perform a 2nd surgery (my 5th breast reconstruction surgery overall) on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. The long-term results after this surgery were wonderful and I am still very pleased with the outcome now almost 3 months post-op. I have had my gripes about every surgeon I have seen over the past 5 years throughout a very difficult process, physically and mentally. However, this plastic surgeon definitely has the best bedside manner, sense of humor, sense of pride in his work, and level of care for his patients. When I experienced all those issues after the October 23rd surgery, I really felt like my health and well-being was a top priority to this surgeon. Also, I don't think I have ever waited more than 5-10 minutes to be seen while at his office! That is unheard of in this industry. I have previously and frequently waited more than 1 hour during most of my office visits with previous surgeons! His staff is incredibly nice, friendly, and patient, especially the few surgical techs that work solely for him and assist during his procedures.
