Hair transplantation is a process in which hair is taken from the back of the head and replaced in areas where hair loss has occurred. The NeoGraft device uses a special technology that is able to quickly and painlessly remove the hair follicles from the back of the head and implant them to balding areas. NeoGraft uses a controlled pneumatic pressure to slide out the graft smoothly, so there is no pulling or twisting, which can risk damaging the graft. Because the NeoGraft transplant is faster than other out of date methods, the grafts can be re-implanted sooner which keeps them more robust, increasing the success of the grafting process.

Dr. Fernau is one of the only surgeons who incorporates a PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) process into his hair restoration procedures. PRP is the process of taking the patient’s own blood and purifying and separating it into a healing liquid. This is then put into a syringe and reintroduced into the treatment site. Early studies have shown that PRP help stimulate hair growth and aid in wound healing. Dr. Fernau provides PRP therapy at no additional charge to the patient. During/After Surgery

During surgery, the NeoGraft machine grafts a few hair follicles. These will then be transplanted into the area of balding. A session can last up to 3 hours. After the procedure, the patient’s head will be thoroughly rinsed and a protective cream will be applied to the scalp. Rigid instructions about taking care of the grafts will be provided. It is normal to experience a slight pain and tenderness for the first few days following the procedure. The patient must refrain from physical activities to avoid additional swelling of the forehead. Make sure that no pressure is put on or around the treated area to avoid complications.

How Well Does it Work?

The science behind hair grafting has been simplified over the years. Hair follicles are taken from the hair at the back of the head that is genetically programmed to continue to grow. The follicles that hold the transplanted hair are living tissues that grow cyclically. Like normal hair growth, transplantation is an ongoing process that requires a commitment of time. Once the hair follicle has been implanted into the balding area, the grafted hair will stay in place for about 2-3 weeks before shedding. After shedding, the new growth will begin in 3-4 months; this is normal and an important part of the new hair growth process. After that time period, the hair will continue to grow normally and the results will look healthy and natural.

Better Method?

Another popular method for hair growth is called the strip method. There is no significant difference when it comes to the results by using FUE or strip. Both methods implement different levels of invasiveness and the noticeable size of the area from where hair is grafted.
