I came to him in a very desperate situation as I had experienced complications with a burn and subsequent problems with cortisone after a scar revision from a different doctor. My nose without any bad angles - I have always had breathing problems. It wasn't something only I noticed - even school classmates commented. When I turned 30, I figured I still hopefully have 60 years of breathing left to do, so it is time to do something about it. I interviewed every doc in town and landed on Dr. Fernau because:1) He is double boarded as both an ENT and as a plastic surgeon 2) His before/afters appealed to my aesthetic the most3) He said during the consultation that his daughter had the same bumps on the side of her nose and I thought maybe he'll see a bit of his daughter on the table that day.In the end >2 years later, I am incredibly happy with my results both from a cosmetic and functional aspect. I can breathe now. I sleep with my mouth closed and my constantly bleeding/chapped lips are better. Getting sick is a breeze because I can actually blow the mucous out of my nose instead of every cold turning into a raging sinus infection. I am very happy with the appearance- it is still "my nose" but I just don't have any bad angles anymore. Throughout the entire experience with Dr. Fernau, I was treated with respect, kind consideration, and was never rushed out of just one more question with every member of his team. Two years ago the office scheduling practices were a mess, but I knew when I got back there, I would be the #1 priority so it was worthwhile. Billed to insurance was over $45k, but my total cost was about $15.7k once you paid all the bills, medications, etc. I would recommend Dr. Fernau to anyone considering a septo/rhinoplasty. More
Subglandular Sientra 355 cc smooth round mod+ gummy bear implants with GalaFORM mesh dissolvable scaffolding - 5 days until my surgery! My first consultation was in December of 2018 and we decided on subglandular gummy bear implants in order to achieve optimum lift. The implants won't be seen because I had a good "pinch test" and since they're gummy bear, there won't be any implant "rippling.' The exact size and profile is TBD because he will be using sizers on me during my surgery. Thinking somewhere between 350-415 ccs and moderate to moderate plus profile. More

No drain tummy tuck with amazing results - Dr. Fernau and his staff are amazing! In June 2018 I had a no drain lipoabdominoplasty and the results are better than I ever could have imagined. During the consultation, I was given the options based on what I wanted to accomplish and Dr. Fernau was very honest with me in which procedures would get me the best results. In deciding to go through with the tummy tuck, Sheila was a wealth of knowledge in going over the paper work and preoperative procedures. On the day of the surgery at Trinity Hospital (and their staff was amazing too!), I was nervous, but knew I was in good hands because of how thorough and meticulous Dr. Fernau was before we went into the room for surgery. After surgery I couldn't believe how good I felt and already looked! The recovery process was much better than expected (I never took a pain pill!). I was walking pretty much normal after a week and back to normal activities within 6 weeks. My life has changed completely due to this procedure and the wonderful results thanks to Dr. Fernau. Phenomenal experience - From the first consultation, Dr. Fernau and his staff were beyond welcoming and helpful. He made me feel like I was his only patient. He seemed genuinely excited about my procedure and getting me the results that I wanted. He's a perfectionist and won't settle for less than perfect results. He travels around the world attending conferences related to his trade. He has his finger on the pulse of the latest technologies. I lost about 100 pounds 2 years ago and my breasts were loose bags of skin and tissue. He performed a breast lift and augmentation using the PAM technique. Its only been a month, but I can't believe how good they look. The scarring is so minimal right now and they look like full, natural breasts. I couldn't be happier with Dr. Fernau or my experience. I will updated when I'm further along post op. Updated on 29 Aug 2018: Feeling way better today than I was last night. Bruising pretty bad but pain is bearable.. uncomfortable more than painful. Took my Percocet and Valium this morning and only my ibuprofen since then, and seem to be getting by ok with just the ibuprofen now. Updated on 31 Aug 2018: Swelling and bruising is improving. I'm getting around pretty good now. Some slight stinging here and there but no pain meds needed. Continuing to take my antibiotics. Very happy with my results so far and anxious for the swelling and bruising to be completely gone. I know I've got a ways to go though ;) Updated on 4 Sep 2018: Making progress on the swelling. Slowly, but expected. Pain free other than a shooting stinging feeling every now and then. I'm guessing it's nerve pain. Hoping these next few weeks of recovery fly by. Updated on 2 Oct 2018: Been a while, thought I'd post an update. My swelling has gone down and I'm thrilled with my results so far. Bumps are starting to smooth out and look way better. I don't feel any internal stitches now. Still some darkness on the skin but I'm assuming that will go away with more time. Looking at before and afters now, I can't believe I didn't get this done sooner. Updated on 2 Nov 2018: I'm a little over 2 months post op now and feel great. I'm happy with my results and feel completely back to normal again. I've resumed intercourse with my husband and there's no issues now. The first couple times were a little tough, the skin felt too tight so we took it slow.. but after about the 3rd time everything has been great since, even better than before surgery. Updated on 5 Dec 2018: Still seeing some minor changes but feel like I'm pretty close to what my final look will be. Very happy with the results and cannot believe I went through so many years of shame. I should've had this surgery years ago. Updated on 21 Feb 2020: Not as happy with my results as I was my last update. It seems after the tissue completely relaxed that it has increasingly gotten larger again. And the appearance is more bumpy now and less smooth. It also seems like my tissue is kind of dog eared near my clitoris on the left side. I dont understand what caused it to change so much but overall I'm still happier than i was before surgery. Im just not completely satisfied like i was the last time. I still stand by Dr. Fernau and say him and his teams were great. More

When I first walked in the office I was greeted by his staff. During my consultation I found Doctor Fernau to be really down to earth. He answered every question I had and made suggestions of what my options were. I decided to have abdominal etching, liposuction of my love handles, and some fat grafting using the Hydrosolv form of liposuction. The day of surgery I was visited by Dr. Fernau and went over each step of the operation. During this time I asked Dr. Fernau if some of the fat taken could be placed into my calves. Incredible Surgeon! - My experience with Dr. Fernau and his staff was absolutely incredible. I had Pyloric Stenosis as an infant, which years later has resulted as deeply puckered scars throughout my abdomen. Dr. Fernau suggested hydrasolve liposuction and my results have been life-changing. The post-op recovery was quick and painless and there is no visible scarring as a result of this procedure. 19 y/o Septo-rhinoplasty - Ever since I can remember, I've never been able to breathe through my nose. Eventually I found out that I had a deviated septum and figured now while I'm young (19, f), now would be a good time to get a septoplasty and also fix a bump that I've always been self conscious of on my bridge. The second Dr.Fernau saw my nose he could tell me that my nose had been broken at one point in my life, mind you that I've been to numerous ENT specialists and other plastic surgeons that never mentioned that. He assured me that after the septo-rhinoplasty that I'd be able to breathe completely after the surgery and I scheduled the surgery a few days later. The office staff was always accommodating to my needs and questions as the surgery got closer (helping me plan my appointments well in advance around my weird work schedule, squeezing me in when needed) and were always friendly. Dr.Fernau made me feel so comfortable and prepared before the surgery with all of the pre-operative measures he takes with a vitamin regime, ointments and soaps using for the last three days before surgery. You always knew that he knew what he was doing and was doing it for your best interest. The day of surgery I was so nervous! He came back before surgery and met my family and assured them (and me again) that I'd be ecstatic with the outcome. 5 hours later I woke up and my boyfriend told me that he said my nose fracture was so bad that a piece of bone actually chipped away. He said before surgery he couldn't get a syringe up my one nostril and after he could fit his fingers up there so I will now be able to breathe. My surgery was July 20th so my first post-op appointment was four days later to get my internal splints out. I went into the appointment feeling weak, tired and not like myself. With black eyes and a swollen face, how can anyone feel good? As soon as he came in he could sense that and in a matter of minutes he had me laughing. He has a wonderful bedside manner. I'm not gonna candy coat it, the splint removal was HORRIBLE. I thought my brain was gonna come out with them. More
I now look like nature intended! - Pittsburgh, PA - I'm a 48 year-old woman in good shape - but I had saddlebags from hell. They looked like they didn't belong on my body and were a source of embarrassment. I could never get rid of them with diet and exercise, and even with clothes on it was noticeable. I chose Dr. Fernau because I'm a physician myself and I'm very aware that not everyone who practices plastic surgery is well-qualified. Dr. Fernau not only has academic appointments and is on several patient safety committees, but he has an extensive pre-operative protocol intended to minimize the risk of postoperative complications. I decided to put myself in Dr. Fernau's hands and I'm so glad I did! I had liposuction of inner and outer thighs and fat transfer into the buttocks. I tolerated the surgery and postoperative period well. My saddlebags are gone and I don't know how Dr. Fernau did it (I guess that is the "art" of plastic surgery), but it looks completely natural, not "done", no visible scars. 48 Year Old Wanting to Look Good in Tops my Whole Life - Dr Fernau and his staff were so wonderful. I had 3 prior consults and they couldn't compare to my consult with Dr Fernau. He is very intelligent and stresses patient safety and I felt immediately comfortable with the entire processs. They have state of the art 3 dimensional imaging to help choose the size and style of the implant. My consult was over an hour and I never felt rushed. I chose a 355 Sientra gummy bear implants and my results are perfect. I never took a pain pill after surgery. I was out of my garment in one week. No external sutures. They laser (free of charge) a 3 cm scar to make it disappear. The scars are in my natural breast crease and as I understand it Dr Fernau uses a Keller funnel to keep the scars so small. I have had 2 laser treatments and i cannot see the scars. Dr Fernau is a great surgeon because of his attention to detail. And he truley cares! More

22 Years Old, Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure - Best Experience Ever! - Pittsburgh, PA - I am 22 years old, and my husband and myself had been shopping for the right doctor to perform my Brazilian Butt Lift. We had been to every office in Pittsburgh, and saved Dr. Fernau's office last, because I was highly impressed with his previous work in Brazil. His consult was so outstanding, that we scheduled my surgery before leaving his office. The technology he used during his consult was the best I had seen, not to mention I could really tell that he was passionate about his work. He referred to what he did as "art" instead of surgery. The fact that the doctor himself was there to answer all my question really impressed me, since all of my other consult's were with an LPN or a doctor's consult manager. I was so nervous, and Dr. Fernau literally made me feel so confident by the time of my appointment date. He even gave me his personal cell phone number if I had any questions before or after! He is one of the only doctor's who has the advanced technology of the HydroSolve, that he used to take out the fat in my abdominal and hip rolls and place into my buttocks. AMAZING Doctor, Great Results for SeptoRhinoplasty - I am 24 years old and I have always had difficulty breathing due to a trauma that occurred when I was a child. Not only did I have trouble breathing, I was very self-conscious because of the appearance of my nose due to the trauma. I began researching for doctors and came across Dr. Fernau in Pittsburgh, PA. Voluma - Pittsburgh, PA - I had an opportunity to receive a party price for a mini face life using Voluma. Dr. Fernau and his certified nurse Sheila (certified in facial fillers) injected Voluma in my cheek region that instantly gave me cheekbones and lifted my lower jowl area reducing some fine wrinkles in my lower face. I cannot wait to get additional injections that will complete my "liquid face lift" I think I actually got extra just because Dr. Fernau wanted me to look better and WOW it was instantly noticeable by my friend who I met afterwards. 52yo Looks 102 Yo - Pittsburgh, PA - I have had 2 micro needling followed by PRP (platelet rich plasma) application by Cindy Scozio at Accent on Body , the office of Dr. James Fernau, and I cannot believe my results. Cindy took extra time explaining the science behind the procedure and recommended a skin care regime that has left my skin soooooo amazing . He was there during my entire consult, gave me his cell phone number for any questions before or after my surgery, and made sure I was confident in both his skills as well as the machine, the HydroSolve, that he would be using. His experience worldwide is exceptional, and his work that he performed on me was truely artistic. He does an outstanding job. - - I am 22 years old, and my husband and myself had been shopping for the right doctor to perform my Brazilian Butt Lift. We had been to every office in Pittsburgh, and saved Dr. Fernau's office last, because I was highly impressed with his previous work in Brazil. The consultation lasted about 2 hours. Microneedling Was Worth It Performed by Cindy Scozio at Dr. Fernau's Office - Pittsburgh, PA - I have never had a bad experience at Dr. Fernau's office. All of his employees have always been extremely kind to me, and Dr. Fernau himself has shown me interest and care. My skin concerns involve Cindy Scozio in particular, who has worked with me over the years to treat my acne and acne scars. She has just recently performed a new treatment on me, which I loved for both my acne and scarring. The microneedle combined with Regenica made my acne disappear completely for a solid month, and I had multiple red spots that completely went away. Additionally, the acne scars that have been present for years, though severely diminished since seeing Cindy, were even further reduced by 50-75% depending on the spot. I was also happy that no numbing was needed; my forehead was minimally painful, and my cheeks didn't hurt a bit. There was only one day that I had to go without wearing makeup, and after that you couldn't even tell I had anything done! It was perfect to get done right before I went to the beach. So Grateful!!! - Robinson, PA - Dr. Fernau is an amazing doctor and person. He is the best I've been to by far. His work is beautiful and he strives for perfection. He corrected a mistake that another physician made with filler in my tear trough area that I went around with for 2 years and no one else seemed to be able to fix. It was uneven, and I had bags there and a blue tinted discoloration. Dr. Fernau spent so much time with me and offered me different treatments to do everything he could to make me look my best. He used the most current products and techniques I have not seen anyone else use or even mention.
