Belotero is a liquid filler that is introduced to the skin by injecting the solution directly to the problem area. This usually targets wrinkles around the nasolabial folds such as smile lines or forehead wrinkles. Because of Belotero’s versatility, this injectable filler can be used for almost all patients, whether they have beginning wrinkles or deeper creases, as long as the patient has a relatively good skin tone. It is made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that is a hydrator by nature, which is naturally found in the body. Belotero reinstates this substance in the body, and promotes skin hydration. During the skin consultation with Pittsburgh Belotero specialist, Dr. James Fernau, will discuss all of the injectable filler treatments and he will determine if Belotero is a proper fit to attain the desired results.
"If you want to be treated like family and get world class treatment at a very very reasonable cost this is the place to be. Thanks a lot doctor, and you wonderful staff. The best experience I have had at any doctor's office."- P.G. / Facebook / Sep 02, 2015
"Dr. Fernau and his staff are amazing! In June 2018 I had a no drain lipoabdominoplasty and the results are better than I ever could have imagined. During the consultation, I was given the options based on what I wanted to accomplish and Dr. Fernau was very honest with me in which procedures would get me the best results. In deciding to go through with the tummy tuck, Sheila was a wealth of knowledge in going over the paper work and preoperative procedures. On the day of the surgery at Trinity Hospital (and their staff was amazing too!), I was nervous, but knew I was in good hands because of how thorough and meticulous Dr. Fernau was before we went into the room for surgery. After surgery I couldn't believe how good I felt and already looked! The recovery process was much better than expected (I never took a pain pill!). I was walking pretty much normal after a week and back to normal activities within 6 weeks. My life has changed completely due to this procedure and the wonderful results thanks to Dr. Fernau. I am continuing to workout and watch my diet and after 5 months post-op I am down 20 pounds and look like a whole knew person! I highly recommend Dr. Fernau and his staff. They are truly AMAZING!"- A. / Google / Nov 26, 2018

He recently did my Labiaplasty procedure and I will hopefully be going back for a BBL in the future. I rate him and his team a 10 out of 10 for sure!"- P. / RealSelf / Aug 28, 2018
"Absolute Plastic Surgery Genius! - Dr. Fernau and his entire staff are amazing. After numerous virtual consultations, I scheduled to have my lipo abdominoplasty with Dr. Fernau. PLEASE, don’t choose a surgeon on affordability or discounts, alone. This is your ONE body and you get what you pay for. I’m currently 6 days post-op and am already in love with my new shape. Dr. Fernau is an artist, not just a surgeon. His met..."- L. / RealSelf / Aug 02, 2018
Belotero is often a single-session treatment that lasts up to 30 minutes, sometimes even less. Patients may experience pain is similar to any other injection treatments. A topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort during the session. The amount of medication, formulation and injection spot vary considering each patient’s circumstances. The entire process is repeated every 6 to 12 months as the formulation is naturally absorbed by the body.
What to Expect
Since this is a noninvasive treatment, patients will be able to go back to their normal routine shortly after the injection. Some swelling and redness may be present, but these usually subside after a few hours. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least 1 day. The results are evident immediately, and can last from 6 months to 1 year. Generally, the skin treated will appear smooth with a rejuvenated glow that makes facial features look young and fresh.
Each syringe can cost between $300 and $600, and a single treatment may use more than 1 syringe depending on the severity of the case. Sometimes more than one treatment is necessary. During the initial consultation, the doctor will analyze the patient’s cosmetic concerns and will determine the necessary amount of medication needed to attain the desired results.

There are a number of available injectable fillers that are hyaluronic based in the market today. However, Belotero is best known for its function to correct severe wrinkles commonly found around the nasolabial folds. Other fillers will be discussed during the initial consultation with the doctor to highlight the advantages of each, and the best approach to the patient’s facial features and cosmetic concerns.
Belotero is hyaluronic-acid-based filler that is FDA approved. It is backed with years of extensive testing for its function and safety. Since hyaluronic acid is a substance processed naturally in the body, it is a solution that integrates well with the underlying tissues, and provides great results in terms of adding volume and promoting skin hydration.
BOTOX or Belotero?
BOTOX works in a way that once injected, the skin will appear smoother and softer because the solution is a muscle relaxant. It freezes the muscles beneath the skin where it was injected. However, it doesn’t add any volume to the area. Belotero, like other injectable derma fillers, can provide the same results as BOTOX, but works in a way that it adds more volume so that it stretches the skin to make it appear more youthful and smoother with wrinkles becoming less evident.
Do I Need Reinjection?
In most cases, yes. Since Belotero is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally within the body, the injected solution normally gets absorbed. It is recommended to maintain injections every 6 months to 1 year to supplement the loss of volume. Some patients initially opt for derma fillers to see if cosmetic enhancements will look and feel before proceeding with more permanent and invasive procedures such as facelifts.
